Duncan graduated from the University of Natal with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accountancy. Duncan joined PricewaterhouseCoopers to complete his training contract. During this period he passed his board exam and, after completing his training contract, he was admitted to The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1995.
While at PricewaterhouseCoopers, he became a manager and was responsible for the accounting and taxation, with his main focus being farming taxation. In 1999 he joined Porter Purbrick and the Harvard House Group and is responsible for assisting clients with their annual and monthly accounting, auditing, general business advice, tax compliance and tax and estate planning needs.
Peter graduated from the University of Natal with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accountancy. Pete joined PricewaterhouseCoopers to complete his training contract. During this period he passed his Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy, the Qualifying exam, and was admitted to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1995.
On completing his training contract, Pete was appointed as manager of the audit department, a position which he held for four years before joining Porter Purbrick as a partner in 1999. Pete is currently responsible for group operations, including human resource management and internal controls, and is also responsible for assisting clients with business consulting and company restructuring.
Peter qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1966 in Salisbury, Rhodesia (Now Harare, Zimbabwe). He then spent two years in America, obtaining a Master of Business Administration Degree and lecturing in accountancy. At the end of this period he moved to Cape Town and was employed at the head office of Mobil and then as Administration Manager of Sharp Electronics. After passing examinations in South African law and tax he was admitted as a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1971.
In 1978 he was ordained as a minister in the Anglican Church and was in charge of churches in Cape Town and Johannesburg, after twenty years in full-time church work he moved back into the accounting world with positions in two micro finance organisations and then as Financial Director of a large manufacturing company in Johannesburg.
On moving to Howick in 2003, Peter joined Porter Purbrick, managing the accounting department. In 2009, he was appointed a Partner in Harvard House Chartered Accountants with responsibility for the monthly and annual accounting work as well as tax.
Clyde joined Harvard House Group in February 2014 in the newly created position of Business Development & Support Manager bringing over 26 years of experience in business development, people management, strategy implementation, negotiation skills and consulting.
Clyde's diverse role involves implementing the Group’s agreed strategic goals, support to the Board, staffing, policies and procedures and playing a support role to the various Departmental Managers. Clyde holds Diplomas in Marketing (The Institute of Bankers South Africa) and Business Management (Henley College UK), a NQF6 Principal Estate Agent’s qualification and various training and development courses.
Clyde previously enjoyed a successful 19 year career with Standard Bank where he held the position of Senior Business Manager. After leaving banking he started his own Finance Origination & Consultancy business, which he ran successfully for 7 years, before joining Harvard House.
He currently resides in Pietermaritzburg, is happily married to Melissa and has two sons Luke and Shane. He is a sporting enthusiast, loves the outdoors and is passionate about cycling. Clyde is motivated by quotes such as: "A DREAM doesn't become a reality through magic, it takes SWEAT, DETERMINATION and HARD WORK."
Jenny joined the Harvard House Group in March 2014 as the HR Office Manager. She is responsible for the day-to-day office management services of the Group including the human resource management. In her varied role she is also responsible for providing administrative leadership for the office and acting as liaison between the office and firm’s management to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
Jenny has over 20 years of professional experience in administration with an emphasis on human resources, employee relations, recruiting and personnel development. She started her career in the Public Service immediately after high school as a Personnel Officer and worked her way up to Assistant Manager: Human Resource Management with the Department of Public Works.
She completed her National Diploma in Human Resources Management through Technikon SA in 1999 and is currently half way through her B Tech degree in Human Resources Management.
A dedicated and hardworking professional, Jenny believes that one must be the change you wish to see in the world. She is passionate about people development and service delivery. She considers honesty, integrity and kindness important as values to be guided by in both her personal and professional life.
Jenny, a former Howick resident, lives in Pietermaritzburg with her two young sons, who she enjoys spending her time with along with her family and friends.
Born in Creighton, Shelly acquired her Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal. She began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she conducted her articles. After earning her Chartered Accountant designation in 2001, she joined Credit Industriel et Commercial, a French bank in London as an Internal Auditor.
In April 2003, Shelly joined Harvard House Group as a Tax Manager. She is responsible for tax compliance & planning and ensuring that the Tax department stays abreast of emerging tax laws as well as achieving optimal saving provisions for clients. Shelly values honesty, integrity and Godliness and says she enjoys being in the position where she can make a positive difference to peoples’ lives.
Shelly, a junior SA squash champ, with various sporting awards from her earlier days, holds her role as a wife and a mother to her two young daughters very highly.
Karen Fourie and her parents arrived from Harare, Zimbabwe and settled in Pietermaritzburg when she was 11 years old. After receiving her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of KwaZulu Natal, with majors in Marketing and Economics, she started her career as a Junior Accountant for the Development and Services Board for seven years, followed by an 18 month term with PriceWaterCoopers as a Public Sector Consultant. She later successfully juggled positions as a Deputy Director (Budgeting & Reporting) and acting Manager (Finance) for the Office of the Premier for a tenure covering over seven years.
In January 2007, Karen joined Harvard House Group as an Accounting Supervisor within the Accounting and Tax department where she is responsible for tax consulting, planning and compliance. When asked what she is passionate about professionally, she says frankly “Sometimes this can be my worst nightmare too – (but it is) helping clients move from a state of chaos in their business affairs to a point where the clients are compliant in terms of SARS and their affairs are “clean” and simple so that they can concentrate on running their business.” In March 2014, she was promoted to Accounting Manager co-managing the group's Accounting and Tax department.
Karen lives with her husband and two energetic young sons who she hopes will grow into productive and well-rounded men.
Patricia van der Vyver
Patricia grew up in Howick. She obtained her Bachelor of Accounting Science degree at Varsity College and later her honours at the University of KwaZulu Natal in 2006. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2009 after successfully completing her articles with Harvard House. After her articles, she spent a month in the UK and upon her return to South Africa she was appointed as an Accounting Supervisor with Harvard House where she co-manages the Accounting and Tax department. Patricia says that Harvard House “…has an amazing team and work environment and is like my second home.” She now holds the position of Accounting Manager co-managing the Accounting and Tax department with Karen Fourie.
Patricia feels privileged to be in a position to help clients with their finances, build relationships with her clients, and help staff reach their full potential.
Patricia and her husband live in Howick.
Brad, originally with a farming background in Creighton, graduated from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal with a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accountancy.
He started his working career in 2007 in his family’s steel structural engineering business.
Brad then joined KPMG Durban and subsequently Deloitte Pietermaritzburg. After completing his articles he qualified as a chartered accountant.
Brad enjoys working with people and being able to add value to clients’ individual needs.
He likes to spend his spare time outdoors with his wife and young son.
Brad joined Harvard House in January 2017 as a manager in the Accounting and Tax Department.
