Melanie, an admitted Attorney, is originally from Cape Town and now lives in Howick with her husband and children. Melanie joined Harvard House’s Estate Administration Department in June 2012.
Melanie previously served her articles at Stowell & Company as a candidate attorney. She started off in the conveyancing department dealing with estates and trust lodgements, estates administration and following up with cases at the Master’s Office. Later she worked in the litigation department where she drafted pleadings, conducted legal research, consulted with clients, drafted briefs for advocates and made Magistrate Court appearances.
As a Junior Estates Administrator at Harvard House, her work involved attending to the full administration process of deceased estates. However, her portfolio has since evolved and Melanie is now responsible for the drafting of Wills and estate planning on behalf of our clients.
To be an effective Wills drafter requires commitment, persistence, the ability to apply theory in practice and a desire to help others. This is not something that can be taught but must come from within. Melanie is passionate, highly empathetic yet objective with an ability to make decisions and present efficient solutions. This, together with her past experience, sees her uniquely placed to attend to our clients’ Will drafting and estate planning needs.
Alvyn was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg. He joined the Harvard House Estate Administration Department in 2013 as an Estate Administrator. Within the Estate Department he sees people deal with the death of a loved one and as he has lost someone he loves, he feels that he can relate to his clients and their need for someone to help them move forward while allowing them the opportunity to grieve and to help bring them peace of mind. He is passionate about making a difference and finding solutions to any problems that come his way.
His role as an Estates Administrator involves ensuring that estate administration processes are completed efficiently and accurately, and that the estate assets are distributed to the heirs in the shortest possible time.
Away from the office Alvyn enjoys playing or watching football, going to the gym and, by his own admission, has an unhealthy obsession with his PS4 play station.
