Join the Harvard House team as a Supervisor in the Accounting and Tax Department. What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  1. Leading, developing and mentoring staff
  2. Allocating clients, managing workflow and ensuring deadlines are met
  3. Monitoring and updating internal control lists
  4. Providing hands-on technical guidance and training
  5. Conducting performance reviews with staff
  6. Attending to various staff and client queries. This may include researching technical topics and presenting practical solutions
  7. Managing SARS queries including visits to SARS when required
  8. Building and maintaining strong client relationships, including attending client meetings
  9. On-boarding new clients and completing related admin

Reviewing:

  1. Monthly VAT submissions
  2. Annual financial statements (trusts, CCs, companies, and independent reviews)
  3. Individual and corporate tax returns
  4. Working overtime during peak periods

What We’re Looking For:

  1. Newly qualified CA(SA), or eligible to register as a CA(SA)
  2. Strong proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel and Word
  3. Strong digital proficiency and the ability to quickly adapt to new software tools
  4. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and tax regulations
  5. Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic and constantly changing environment

Key activities:

  3. Preparation of detailed tax computations for clients
  4. Preparation of tax returns on specialised tax software

Minimum Requirements

What the position entails:

  1. Taking full responsibility for a list of accounting and tax clients
  2. Monthly processing of vouchers and bank statements on QuickBooks and Pastel to Trial Balance
  3. Analysing monthly management accounts
  4. Preparation and submission of SARS statutory returns (e.g. EMP201 returns, EMP501 returns, and VAT returns)
  5. Preparation of annual financial statements for various business entities and trusts (compilation engagements and independent review engagements)
  6. Preparation of complex tax computations for individuals, trusts, and business entities
  7. Preparation of tax returns on specialised tax software
  8. Business consulting (e.g. cash flows, business valuations, and factual findings)
  9. Attending client meetings
  10. Attending to various client and SARS queries
  11. Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients
  12. Willingness to work overtime when required in order to meet deadlines

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Grade 12 with accounting or a relevant accounting qualification plus relevant working experience
  2. Proficient in using accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel and Word
  3. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations
  4. Working experience in an accounting firm and knowledge of Auditmate software would be an advantage
