Accounting & Tax Manager
Karen Fourie and her parents arrived from Harare, Zimbabwe and settled in Pietermaritzburg when she was 11 years old. After receiving her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of KwaZulu Natal, with majors in Marketing and Economics, she started her career as a Junior Accountant for the Development and Services Board for seven years, followed by an 18 month term with PriceWaterCoopers as a Public Sector Consultant. She later successfully juggled positions as a Deputy Director (Budgeting & Reporting) and acting Manager (Finance) for the Office of the Premier for a tenure covering over seven years.
In January 2007, Karen joined Harvard House Group as an Accounting Supervisor within the Accounting and Tax department where she is responsible for tax consulting, planning and compliance. When asked what she is passionate about professionally, she says frankly “Sometimes this can be my worst nightmare too – (but it is) helping clients move from a state of chaos in their business affairs to a point where the clients are compliant in terms of SARS and their affairs are “clean” and simple so that they can concentrate on running their business.” In March 2014, she was promoted to Accounting Manager co-managing the group’s Accounting and Tax department.
Karen lives with her husband and two energetic young sons who she hopes will grow into productive and well-rounded men.
